BattleLore: Command: Review

When a very expensive strategy from a famous company appeared on mobile trading platforms Fantasy Flight Games, my curiosity knew no bounds. Based on BattleLore, famous among board game fans, it is a turn-based Battle Lore: Command promises to reproduce exciting mechanics on the screens of smartphones and tablets. For those who have never rolled dice, let us explain that the developers from Fantasy Flight Games have repeatedly managed to surpass the original board games when creating their virtual version, thanks to which they have gained special trust from fans. Such mobile ports have another significant advantage – for example, the application BattleLore the price is ten times lower than the cardboard original.

Now it’s your turn sir!

We start by recruiting troops https://nonukonlinecasinos.uk/review/madcasino/ in the style of single battles from the series Total War, where there was also the total cost of the army, and it could not be exceeded when adding assorted “units”. Then on the map we show our tactical skills in placing melee and ranged soldiers, support troops, and so on. Afterwards, cards with bonuses for wisdom points are played (one of the participants may be lucky here). Now the most interesting thing is the choice of battle strategy: which of the three flanks will attack, which one will defend. The decision is made only once, and nothing can be changed until the end of the battle.

Significant difference between the mobile application BattleLore from the offline version lies in the visual visualization of options for the development of events on the screen of your gadget. By the way, each move begins and ends in four phases, which is sometimes painful to calculate on the field. The developers have noticeably speeded up this thinking process. Having once chosen a strategy, we are progressively approaching a fight with an opponent. The field, consisting of three main movement corridors, allows “units” to hide in shelters, defend, attack with lunges and even maneuver. If you manage to hide, then the enemy does not attack, but if you are pinned in a corner, minus one squad. Successful actions earn wisdom points, which are spent on playing a card at the beginning of battles.

The complete collection of rules includes dozens of possible scenarios for the development of events. All of them are described in the form of laws of a fictional universe (though in English) in the encyclopedia. It is very important to get acquainted with it at least superficially, because even the attractive graphical component of the game will not save you from the need to master. Afterwards, you can safely dive into the plot, which tells us about the war between the forces of Evil (the undead) and Good (the human race). BattleLore presents two foundations of the universe – battle (Battle) and knowledge, wisdom (Lore). You will have to learn to find a balance between them in order to defeat the enemy.

Special quests with interesting scenarios were created for the mobile version. Completing them opens up new opportunities to improve the army, expands the types of troops and awards all sorts of bonuses. It is recommended to complete tasks in both single-player mode and multiplayer. The latter, however, is only possible over a local network. This makes the application close to the traditions of board games, which are usually played with friends in personal meetings. After all, this is the whole “paper” romance of such entertainment!

Over time, mobile Battle Lore: Command will grow in breadth due to addons. The developers promise to release additional content with new factions and items in the coming months. This move will only benefit the strategy, because there are no things to buy for real money at all. Yes, the versions for iOS and Android are expensive compared to competitors, but they are several times cheaper than the original desktop. And although the application will not replace all the impressions from the original version of BattleLore, it will help you understand whether such mechanics are interesting to you at all.

Pros: decent graphics for the genre; reference balance of characteristics, card drops and tactical phases; Having learned the basic rules once, you never return to them – the game itself suggests the moves; there is no “donation”.
Cons: localization is required for complete immersion in the ornate plot; This type of strategy is for a narrow circle of board game fans.
